The Custom Formulation Launch Program
A BETTER WAY TO LAUNCH YOUR FIRST PRODUCT
You have an idea for a product that is different from what is already on the market. Now you need the technical expertise, testing, and manufacturing support to bring it to life.
Finding separate partners for formulation, testing, packaging compatibility, and production can create unnecessary complexity for a startup.
The Modern Apothecary Labs Custom Formulation Launch Program brings these development milestones together in one coordinated engagement.
We work with you to develop an original formula, evaluate its performance and compatibility, and produce an initial 500-unit pilot batch.
The result is a more structured path from product concept to an initial production run—with formula ownership addressed as part of the engagement.
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM
01. Custom Formulation Research & Development
Develop a product around your concept, target customer, desired performance, ingredient preferences, and brand positioning.
Your project begins with a technical discussion of the product you want to create. We then work toward a custom formulation designed around the agreed product brief.
Includes:
Product concept and requirements review
Custom formulation development
Ingredient selection and technical evaluation
Formula refinement within the agreed development scope
02. Stability Testing
Evaluate how the product's physical and chemical characteristics change under defined storage conditions over time.
Stability testing helps identify potential changes in appearance, odor, color, texture, pH, viscosity, and other relevant product characteristics.
The testing protocol and duration depend on the product and agreed development plan. Stability results must be interpreted in the context of the study conditions and available data.
03. Package Compatibility Testing
Evaluate the compatibility of the developed formula with the proposed packaging system.
Packaging can influence product quality, dispensing, appearance, and long-term compatibility. Testing is intended to identify potential concerns with the interaction between the formula and its packaging components.
Testing scope will be defined based on the selected package, product characteristics, and project requirements.
04. Preservative Efficacy Testing
For applicable preserved products, evaluate the effectiveness of the preservative system using an appropriate preservative efficacy or challenge-test protocol.
This testing helps assess whether the preservation system can control specified microorganisms under the conditions of the test.
The appropriate protocol depends on the product type and formulation. Test results do not replace the broader safety assessment and manufacturing controls appropriate to the product.
05. Pilot Production Batch & Formula Ownership
Move beyond laboratory samples and produce an initial pilot batch of 250 units.
The pilot batch provides an opportunity to evaluate the product and packaging in a more practical production setting, prepare for initial market feedback, and plan the next stage of manufacturing.
The agreed scope will specify the unit size, packaging configuration, filling requirements, and production assumptions.
Your initial production quantity: 500 units.
Your product concept deserves a clear agreement about ownership.
The program is designed around the development of an original custom formula—not simply the selection of an existing private-label product.
Formula ownership and transfer terms will be documented in the project agreement, including the treatment of the final formula, development records, pre-existing laboratory intellectual property, and any third-party materials or restrictions.
From original concept to a tested, small-batch product launch
Bring your skincare, haircare, or personal-care product idea to life with a comprehensive formulation and pilot-production program designed for emerging brands.
Modern Apothecary Labs combines custom formulation research and development, product testing, and small-batch manufacturing to help you move from concept toward a market-ready product.
No off-the-shelf private-label formula. No need to begin with thousands of units.
One defined program. One dedicated development process. Your own formula.
For founders developing an original cosmetic or personal-care product. Project acceptance is subject to technical feasibility and scope review.
